WILDER, Ky. - Chris
Thompson, Tony Ray and Tony Capurro each scored goals Friday night
as the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team posted
a 3-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan at the Town & Country Sports
Complex.
Thompson and Ray netted
goals in the first half as the Norse built a 2-0 lead. Capurro added
a second-half score for NKU, which won its third straight game to
improve to 3-1.
Capurro, Jason Larkin
and David Botos each recorded assists for the Norse. NKU jumped
out to a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game - the second goal a spectacular
shot from 25 yards out on the left wing by Ray into the net - and
was never threatened.
The Norse controlled
field position most of the contest, held a 13-2 edge in shots and
cruised past Kentucky Wesleyan in the Great Lakes Valley Conference
opener for both teams. NKU did not allow a shot in the second half.
Jeremy Curington and
Anthony Sucietto combined for the NKU shutout. NKU has beaten Kentucky
Wesleyan (0-4 overall, 0-1 GLVC) 13 consecutive times. The Panthers
have not defeated NKU since the 1992 season.
NKU will conclude its
five-game homestand at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with a GLVC contest against
Southern Indiana.
