WILDER, Ky.
- Chris Thompson scored a goal in the first half Friday night as
the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team posted
a 1-0 victory over Lewis at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Jeremy Curington recorded
the shutout for NKU, which knocked off Lewis for the second straight
year. The Norse improved to 6-2 overall, 4-1 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference.
Tony Capurro assisted
Thompson’s goal, which came at the 39:04 mark. Lewis appeared
to be on the verge of tying the contest just seconds before halftime
when John Solberg broke free into the NKU backfield and fired a
shot at a wide-open goal.
Solberg’s shot,
however, hit the right post and a rebound attempt also missed the
mark as NKU took a 1-0 lead to the break.
Lewis lost its third
consecutive game and dropped to 4-4 overall, 2-2 in the GLVC. The
Flyers have not scored a goal during the three straight losses.
NKU will play host to
Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
