SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - David
Lies and Jim Delaney each scored second-half goals Friday night
as the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team posted
a 2-0 victory over Drury.
Lies, a senior and a
graduate of Colerain High School, tallied the first goal just four
minutes into the second half with a header. NKU sealed the victory
in the 78th minute when Delaney punched in a goal off an assist
from Tony Capurro.
NKU improved to 5-1
overall, 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse, ranked
12th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, also extended their
winning streak to five games.
Jeremy Curington picked
up the shutout for NKU and recorded six saves. It was Curington’s
second shutout of the season.
The Norse have not allowed
a goal in their last four games and have outscored the opposition
15-4 this season.
Drury, in its first
season as a member of the GLVC, dropped to 3-4 overall, 0-3 in the
GLVC. The Panthers have lost four straight games after starting
the season 3-0.
NKU will conclude its
two-game road trip at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Kansas City with a GLVC
contest at Rockhurst.
