HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team jumped
to 12th nationally in this week’s NCAA Division II poll.
NKU - which was unranked
in last week’s national poll - is 4-1 overall after posting
a 2-0 win over Southern Indiana last Sunday. The Norse were ranked
as high as 17th nationally last season in the weekly poll, which
is conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The No. 12 national
ranking in the Division II poll is the best in the history of the
NKU men’s soccer program. The previous best was a No. 14 ranking
in 1996.
NKU owns a four-game
winning streak and is tied with Lewis for first place in the Great
Lakes Valley Conference standings. The Norse, 2-0 in the GLVC, will
travel west this weekend for road contests at Drury (Friday at 8:30
p.m.) and Rockhurst (Sunday at 3:30 p.m.).
NKU enters the weekend
having posted three consecutive shutouts in wins against Saginaw
Valley State, Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana. The Norse
have outscored the opposition 13-4 this season.
NKU will return home
Sept. 23 for a 7:30 p.m. GLVC showdown against Lewis at the Town
& Country Sports Complex in Wilder. Ky.
