WILDER, Ky. - Kyle Roberts
and Tony Capurro each scored second-half goals Sunday as the Northern
Kentucky University men’s soccer team extended its winning
streak to four games with a 2-0 decision over Southern Indiana at
the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Dan Impellizzeri and
Daniel Ertel recorded assists as NKU improved to 4-1 overall, 2-0
in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse took advantage of
two yellow cards on Southern Indiana’s Jeff Slaga - the second
at the 61:32 mark - to push across both goals against the shorthanded
Screaming Eagles.
Roberts gave NKU a 1-0
lead at the 64:46 mark by drilling a shot into the back of the net
off a nice feed from Impellizzeri. Capurro added an insurance goal
at the 82:02 mark by finishing off a rebound of an Ertel shot.
Capurro, a sophomore
and a graduate of Moeller High School, now has three goals this
season. NKU finished with a 15-4 edge in shots.
Southern Indiana dropped
to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the GLVC.The Screaming Eagles lead the all-time
series with NKU by a 14-9-2 count.
NKU will travel west
next weekend for GLVC road contests at Drury (Friday at 8:30 p.m.)
and Rockhurst (Sunday at 3:30 p.m.). Drury and Rockhurst are both
first-year members of the GLVC.
