| HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball
team has been recognized for its academic success during the 2004-05
year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
NKU finished with a
team grade point average of 3.477, which ranked ninth nationally
among all NCAA Division II schools. NKU was named to the WBCA’s
Top 25 Team Honor Roll, which includes NCAA Division I, Division
II, Division III, NAIA and junior college teams.
The awards recognize
teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages
for the 2004-05 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member
coaches. A total of 115 schools were honored by the WBCA.
“Based on graduation-rate
research, the female student-athlete cohort has consistently graduated
at the highest rate, followed by female students, male students
and male student-athletes,” said WBCA chief executive officer
Beth Bass. “These 115 teams set the standard for student-athletes
to excel in the classroom as well as on the court.”
