WILDER, Ky. - David Botos scored a goal and added an assist Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team posted a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst (Pa.) at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

Chris Thompson collected two assists as NKU evened its record at 1-1. Daniel Ertel tallied his second goal of the season for the Norse, while teammate Tony Capurro added an insurance goal late in the contest.

Botos gave NKU a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the game by taking a cross from Thompson and finishing for his first goal of the year. Mercyhurst (0-2), however, tied the contest at 1-1 at the 23:33 mark when Jeff Oblock scored a goal.

NKU regained the lead at the 67:34 mark when Botos placed a perfect cross to Ertel, who beat Mercyhurst goalie Daniel Mudd with a shot. Capurro sealed the victory for NKU with a goal off a pass from Thompson.

Jeremy Curington had six saves in goal for NKU, which split its two games in the John Toebben Classic, presented by National City.

Lincoln Memorial defeated Bellarmine, 1-0, in the first game of the John Toebben Classic on Sunday.

NKU will play host to Saginaw Valley State next Saturday at 7 p.m.
