NKU SOCCER SIGNS SIX RECRUITS FOR 2005
Basalyga adds six prep standouts for upcoming season - by Kelli Moynahan
 
 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer head coach John Basalyga has announced that the following individuals have signed national letters of intent to attend NKU and play soccer for the Norse next fall. They are:

•Eric Ashworth, from Centerville (Ohio) High School. As a senior, Ashworth was named first team All-State, All-District and All-Greater Western Ohio Conference. Ashworth helped the Elks capture the GWOC and district championships in 2004.

•Jim Delaney, from Moeller High School in Cincinnati. Delaney scored eight goals and added an assist as a senior for 17 points. He earned first team All-Greater Catholic League and All-City honors and was also named the Crusaders’ Most Valuable Player as a senior.

•Daniel Ertel, from Mt. Healthy High School in Cincinnati. Ertel received first team All-Southwest Ohio Public League and All-City honors as a senior. He was named Most Valuable Player as a junior and Player of the Year as a senior. Ertel earned four letters in soccer and baseball and three letters in football.

•Nathan Moses, from Scott High School. Moses was named first team All-Region as a senior. He was also named the Eagles’ Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior and earned the team’s Best Defensive Player award as a sophomore and junior.

•Joseph Nicolini, from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, Ind. As a senior, Nicolini was named All-Conference. He led the team in assists and scored the winning goal in the Royals’ sectional championship game, which was the first in the school’s history.

•Tom Shriner, from Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln High School. Shriner started every game as a junior and senior and was named second team All-Ohio Capital Conference in 2004. Shriner helped Gahanna Lincoln capture the OCC championship and led the team to its first undefeated regular season in school history as a senior.

Those recruits will join an NKU team that finished with a 12-6-2 overall record in 2004. The Norse posted a 6-3-1 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
