SAVANNAH, Ga.
- The Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team posted
a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Division II national finals with
a four-day total of 1,187 (+51).
NKU sophomore David
Shearer shot a 2-over-par 73 on Friday at the par-71 Club at Savannah
Harbor course and finished in a tie for 37th place with a four-round
total of 296 (+12). NKU’s Mark Krahe shot a 71 on Friday and
tied for 46th place with a total of 300 (+16).
NKU was in first place
after the opening round of play Tuesday with a score of 287. The
Norse shot 297, 302, 301 during the final three rounds.
South Carolina-Aiken
captured its second straight national title with a four-round total
of 1,158, five strokes better than runner-up Armstrong Atlantic
State (1,163). South Carolina-Aiken shot a final-round 293 to wrap
up the team championship.
Andrew Jewell of NKU
finished in a tie for 53rd place with a total score of 301, while
Curtis Phelps tied for 65th place with a total of 305. Jon Ehlen
tied for 74th place with a score of 307.
A year ago, NKU posted
a 17th-place finish at the nationals in Deland, Fla.
