ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The
Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team holds an 18-stroke
lead after two rounds of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional
with a score of 590 at the par-71 St. Joseph Country Club.
NKU shot 297 (+13) during
the second round Tuesday to extend an eight-stroke lead to 18 going
into Wednesday’s final 18 holes. Norse senior Curtis Phelps
shot a 77 in the second round and is tied with Indianapolis’
Chris Clemens atop the leader board with a two-day total of 145.
Andrew Jewell of NKU
shot a 73 during the second round and is in third place with a total
of 147. Two other Norse golfers - Mark Krahe and David Shearer -
are tied for fifth place with two-round scores of 149.
Grand Valley State is
in second place with a score of 608, 18 strokes behind NKU. Northwood
is third with a total of 609.
NKU is looking to repeat
as regional champion and advance to the NCAA Division II national
finals for the third time in the past five years. The national finals
will be held May 17-20 at Savannah, Ga.
A year ago, NKU posted
a 17th-place finish at the nationals in Deland, Fla.
