HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University has added a pair of inside players to its 2008-09 men’s basketball roster, Norse head coach Dave Bezold announced Tuesday.

Bezold said Leslie Malone, a 6-foot-7 forward from Lithonia, Ga., and Tanner Jacobs, a 6-foot-7 post player from Louisville, Ky., have transferred to NKU. Malone played at Cameron (Okla.) last season, while Jacobs comes to NKU from Kennesaw State.

“Leslie and Tanner will add a great deal to our team’s inside attack this season,” Bezold said. “Leslie played Division II basketball last year and averaged a double-double, so we expect him to step in and help us immediately.

“Tanner did a very good job at Kennesaw State last season as a freshman. He’s a strong inside player with a lot of talent. We’re very excited to have both players join our program.”

Malone averaged 19.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game last season at Cameron. He finished seventh nationally in rebounding in the NCAA Division II statistics. Malone was also named All-Lone Star Conference second team last season.

Jacobs averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds for Kennesaw State, which is an NCAA Division I institution. A graduate of Louisville Trinity High School, Jacobs started 22 of 30 games for Kennesaw State and shot 47.9 percent from the field.

Jacobs’ top effort for the Owls was a 17-point, 18-rebound performance against Mercer. He collected three double-doubles last season and added a 17-point performance against Minnesota.

Malone and Jacobs join two other transfers, 6-5 A’Daeron Duncan from Coppin State, and 6-5 Dustin Maguire from Saint Louis, as potential impact players for this year.

NKU posted a 21-8 record last season and captured its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division championship.
