Ohio - Grand Valley State flexed its collective baseball muscles
Saturday afternoon and ended Northern Kentucky University's season
with an 11-2 victory in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
Casey Robrahn
was 5-for-6 and drove in two runs for Grand Valley State, which
improved to 43-14-1. The Lakers used a 20-hit attack to eliminate
Great Lakes Valley Conference champion NKU (41-22) from the NCAA
Tournament.
Ryan Schmidt
started on the mound for NKU and allowed four earned runs on nine
hits. Schmidt also struck out four batters. |
Leading
2-1 going into the fifth inning, Grand Valley State scored three
times to build a 5-1 advantage. The Lakers sealed the win by scoring
five times in the top of the ninth.
NKU scored a
run in the seventh on an RBI double by Jason Cisper that plated
Brian Erie. Cisper also extended his hitting streak to 24 games
with that run-scoring double.
Grand Valley
State will meet Indianapolis on Sunday. The Lakers, who won the
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, are ranked
11th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. |
