MIDLAND, Mich.
- The Northwood (Mich.) women’s tennis team ended Northern
Kentucky University’s season Friday by posting a 5-1 win over
the Norse in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament.
Northwood (18-3)
won the first two doubles matches to build a 2-0 lead. NKU’s
No. 3 doubles team of Patricia Brinck and Maggie Koetter then posted
an 8-3 win over Raphaela Perisic and Nicole Kromer to make it 2-1
heading into the singles competition.
Northwood, the
top seed in the regional tournament, earned the victory by earning
straight-set wins at the top three singles positions. NKU, which
advanced by defeating Southern Illinois at Edwardsville on Thursday,
closed its season with an 18-5 record.
Northwood, which
is ranked 18th nationally, earned a trip to Houston, Texas, for
the Division II Spring Sports Festival May 14-17.
