ALLENDALE, Mich.
- The Grand Valley State women’s golf team captured the NCAA
Division II East Region championship Wednesday by shooting 319 in
the final round and totaling 940 for the three-day tournament.
The Lakers won
the title by 18 strokes over runner-up Ferris State (958) at The
Meadows par-72 course. Ashley Smith of Grand Valley State shot a
79 in the final round to win the medal by two strokes with a score
of 231 (+15).
Northern Kentucky
University’s Alicia Lawrence posted a 10th-place finish with
a three-round total of 243. Lawrence, a senior from Williamstown,
Ky., shot rounds of 78-78-87 during the tournament as the Norse
finished fifth with a score of 1,011.
NKU’s
Alicia Stauffacher totaled 251 and finished 16th in the individual
competition. The Norse’s Sofie Rasmussen posted a 22nd-place
finish with a score of 259.
NKU golfers
Lyndsey Bevill and Charity Evans tied for 24th place with scores
of 262.
