FINDLAY, Ohio - The University of Indianapolis men’s golf team rallied from a nine-stroke deficit going into Wednesday’s final round by shooting 289 to capture the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region championship by two strokes over Grand Valley State.

Indianapolis finished with a three-day score of 885, two strokes ahead of runner-up Grand Valley State. The Lakers shot 300 as a team in the final round.

Northern Kentucky University totaled 900 for the tournament and placed fourth. The Norse’s Carl Hays shot an even-par 72 during Wednesday’s final round and placed fourth individually with a total score of 218. Hays, a senior from Walton, Ky., shot rounds of 75-71-72 during the event.

NKU’s Danny Lewis finished ninth with a score of 222 at the par-72 Red Hawk Run Golf Course. Lewis shot an 81 Wednesday after shooting rounds of 71-70 during the first two days.

Eric Fuldner of NKU tied for 14th place with a score of 225 after shooting 73 in the final round. Joe Juszczyk of Wayne State won the medal with a score of 213 (-3) and qualified for the nationals as an individual.
