INDIANAPOLIS - Northern Kentucky University’s Dennis Gagai has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball, the league office announced Monday.

Gagai, a 6-foot-4 freshman guard, averaged 22 points per game last week as NKU defeated Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan. He began the week by pouring in a career-high 29 points in a 78-62 win over Southern Indiana.

In that game, Gagai set an NKU record for 3-point shooting accuracy by going 7-for-8 (.875) from behind the arc. He also was 11-for-12 from the field as the Norse defeated the Screaming Eagles for the first time since 2004.

Gagai capped his week Saturday by scoring 15 points during a 69-62 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. He buried a trio of 3-pointers in that game as the Norse prevailed in a battle for first place in the GLVC East Division.

For the week, Gagai shot 72.7 percent from the field, including 10-for-16 from 3-point range. The Ironton, Ohio, native averages 13.4 points per game this season and leads the GLVC in 3-point shooting at .565. He is also No. 3 in the GLVC in field-goal percentage at .608.

NKU is 13-2 overall, 7-1 in the GLVC. The Norse hit the road this week for games at Missouri-St. Louis (Thursday at 8:30 p.m.) and Missouri S&T (Saturday at 4 p.m.).
