HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach Dave Bezold announced Wednesday that he has added transfer guard Kyle Julius to the 2007-08 roster.

Julius, a native of Naperville, Ill., played at Santa Fe Community College last season and helped the Saints win the Mid-Florida Conference championship by averaging 8.6 points per game. The previous season, the 6-foot-4 Julius averaged 16.7 ppg for Illinois Central College.

“Kyle is a great outside shooter who will keep defenses honest,” Bezold said. “He was a very good scorer in high school, and we think Kyle is going to be a good fit to our program."

During his career at Naperville Central High School, Julius scored 1,100 points and averaged 20.0 ppg as a senior. He also scored a school-record 38 points in a game and earned All-DuPage Valley Conference honors as a junior and senior.

Julius is the second newcomer NKU has added for next season. The Norse earlier received a commitment from West Virginia University transfer Dennis Gagai, a 6-4 guard.

Julius will join an NKU program that posted a 24-9 record and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament last season.

The Norse must replace two starters, including Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and first team All-American Steven Wright (16.8 ppg), from that team. NKU must also replace 7-foot center James Cripe (45 blocked shots, 7.8 ppg) and guard Kevin Schappell (10.5 ppg).
