INDIANAPOLIS
- Northern Kentucky University's Steven Wright has been named the
Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performance
during the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic this past weekend.
Wright, a graduate
of Colonel White High School in Dayton, Ohio, averaged 18 points
per game and shot 70 percent from the field as NKU defeated a pair
of foes from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
He also connected on 57.1 of his 3-point attempts and averaged 4.0
rebounds per contest.
During NKU’s
73-59 win over Ferris State last Friday, Wright netted a game-high
19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. He was 1-for-2 from
behind the arc and converted 4-of-5 free-throw attempts. The 6-foot-3
senior guard helped the Norse build a 44-29 halftime lead by scoring
13 points before the break.
Wright poured
in 17 points in NKU’s 75-69 win over Wayne State on Saturday.
He was 7-for-12 from the field and drained a trio of 3-point field
goals. Wright also grabbed five rebounds in that victory, and he
sealed the win with less than a minute remaining by finishing off
a breakaway with a resounding dunk.
Wright was named
the most outstanding player for NKU during the John L. Griffin/Lions
Club Classic.
NKU (2-0) begins
GLVC play at 8 p.m. Tuesday with a road game against Bellarmine
in Louisville, Ky. The Knights (1-1) handed NKU an 84-64 loss last
season in Knights Hall. The Norse have dropped their last two games
against Bellarmine in Knights Hall.
