HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University's Steven Wright has earned a spot on the All-Great Lakes Region first team from Daktronics, Inc.

Wright, a senior guard from Dayton, Ohio, leads NKU in scoring (16.7), rebounding (5.3 rpg), steals (48) and minutes played (32.8 mpg). The former Colonel White High School standout also became one of the most electrifying players in Norse history with his resounding dunks, and his 35 slams this season are the most by a guard in NKU history.

Wright has led NKU in scoring 13 times this season with a single-game high of 29 against SIUE on Dec. 2. He also earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year honors, the first time since 1989 an NKU men's basketball performer captured that award.

Wright has led NKU to a 22-8 overall record and helped the Norse capture the GLVC East Division title. He was also named to the GLVC All-Tournament team after leading NKU to the championship game last weekend at Evansville, Ind.

A three-year starter at Bowling Green State before transferring to NKU, Wright earlier this season scored his 1,000th career point. The Norse will meet Drury in the first round of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament this Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. at Findlay, Ohio.

NKU is the No. 4 seed in that event, while Drury is the No. 5 seed. The winner will likely play top-seeded Findlay (28-1), which has won 58 consecutive home games.

Joining Wright on the All-Great Lakes Region first team are Northern Michigan's Ricky Volcy, Lewis' Brandon Dagans, Findlay's Frank Phillips and Wayne State's Kris Krzyminski. Volcy was voted the Great Lakes Region Player of the Year from Daktronics, Inc. after averaging 22.5 ppg and 9.6 rpg this season.

The Daktronics, Inc. teams are selected by the sports information directors in each region. Members of the first team in each of the eight region's around the nation are put on the ballot for Division II All-America consideration.
