----NKU’s Steven Wright

INDIANAPOLIS - Northern Kentucky University's Steven Wright has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Wright, a graduate of Colonel White High School in Dayton, Ohio, averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as the Norse swept GLVC games against Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside. He poured in 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists in an 82-66 win over Lewis last Thursday night.

Wright then scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half as NKU rallied from a 13-point deficit to defeat Wisconsin-Parkside, 70-66, on Saturday. In that win, Wright scored five straight points late in the contest to tie the score, and he later hit a jumper to give NKU the lead.

The Rangers rallied to tie the score, but Billy Finnell drained a 3-pointer to give NKU the lead it never relinquished.

This is the second time Wright has earned the GLVC weekly honor this season. The 6-foot-3 senior guard leads NKU in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (5.5 rpg), steals (36) and minutes played (31.1 mpg).

Wright's performance has helped NKU forge a 17-6 overall record, and the Norse are in sole possession of first place in the GLVC East Division with a 10-5 mark. NKU will play host to Bellarmine at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and close out the home schedule at 7:45 p.m. Thursday against Kentucky Wesleyan.
