FORT LAUDERDALE,
Fla. - Rhys Martin scored 24 points to lead Nova Southeastern to
an 80-73 win over Northern Kentucky University on Thursday night
in the George Mayer Gym.
Tim Coenraad
added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Sharks, who improved to
6-2. Nova Southeastern converted 30 of its 38 attempts from the
free-throw line, including 21-for-25 shooting in the second half.
Martin - who
also had four steals - was 9-for-11 at the charity stripe, while
teammate Calvin Jenkins used 9-for-10 shooting from the line to
account for all nine of his points.
Kevin Schappell
led NKU (7-3) with 16 points and nine rebounds. Vincent Humphrey
and Billy Finnell each added 15 points for the Norse, who made just
59.4 percent of their free throws and shot 38.7 percent from the
field.
Scott Bibbins
scored a career-high seven points off the bench for NKU. Mark Hawkins
and Travis Rasso each contributed six points for the Norse.
Oresti Nitsios
added 10 points for Nova Southeastern, and Jenkins finished with
nine rebounds. It was the first meeting between NKU and Nova Southeastern
in men’s basketball.
NKU will conclude
its two-game road trip in Florida at 7 p.m Friday against 19th-ranked
Lynn (8-2). The Fighting Knights advanced to the NCAA Division II
Final Four last season.
