Dave Bezold announced Monday that the Norse have added Vaplaraiso
University transfer Vincent Humphrey to the roster for the 2005-06
Humphrey, a 6-foot-4
guard/forward, played at Valparaiso last season and averaged 2.6
points per game for the Crusaders. He scored 10 points against NCAA
Division I national runner-up Illinois on Dec. 19, and he also added
10 points against Missouri-Kansas City later in the season.
Humphrey saw action
in 22 games at Valparaiso as a freshman and averaged 1.8 rebounds
per contest. He also made 73.1 percent of his free throws.
A 2004 graduate of Fenwick
High School in Chicago, Ill., Humphrey was selected as the Chicago
Catholic League Player of the Year in 2003-04. A second team all-state
selection as a junior and senior, Humphrey was a three-time first
team All-Catholic League player.
In his senior year,
Humphrey led Fenwick to a 21-7 record and the Catholic League championship.
Humphrey averaged 18.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7
steals per game as a senior.
all-time leading scorer (behind current NBA standout Corey Maggette),
Humphrey netted 1,584 career points. As a junior, he averaged 21.7
ppg and 4.7 rpg. His best games included a career-high 33 points
against Von Steuben, and a 31-point effort against Brother Rice.
Humphrey, who has three
years of eligibility remaining, will join an NKU program that posted
a 14-15 record last season. The Norse also finished as runner-up
in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
