NKU vs. UC-Clermont (Jan. 11, 2005)

Head Coach Dave Bezold

On winning at home…
“It was nice to play a home game and, especially, have an opportunity to get back on the floor, get back to school and get back into our routine and then get a win at home. That is something we haven’t experienced in a while. It was a great experience for our guys and hopefully we are getting back into our routines of school and basketball.”

On the team’s 29 assists…
“It was great ball movement. The other side of it is the reason you get an assist is because someone finishes the plays off by making the shots inside. We were patient. They played us in a two-three, and we were fortunate enough to make enough plays to win.”

On changes for the remaining conference schedule…
“We just need to be consistent. It’s not so much about doing things differently as far as strategy, it’s in our competitiveness on both ends of the floor.”

Steve Purdon

On getting the win before facing Bellarmine…
“It’s always good to get a win under your belt especially at home. We need to get it done here. Eight of our next twelve games are at home. We just need to get in our groove here, and protect our house, and hopefully that will help us turn the season around.”

On his and Mike Kelsey’s combined nine three-pointers…
“It’s very important. It’s what (Mike Kelsey) and I are here to do. We haven’t exactly been carrying our weight, and that is a lot of the problem with the team. We as a team depend on us hitting our threes, and we are both real good shooters. It’s just a matter of us letting it come and not forcing it.”

Mike Kelsey

On the importance of hitting the threes…
“When we get the opportunities to knock down shots, we need to do it. Tonight, there were times when we did. When we get looks like that, it’s got to be wide open looks like we did tonight, we have to shoot them better than we did. We knocked down nine between the two of us, but we have to shoot even better than that. We’ve kind of struggled a little bit getting into a rhythm in games, and that’s why our percentages are down, but I think we are coming around. Our offense is coming around, and teams aren’t just trying to key in on one or two guys anymore. They saw what we can do to other teams with other guys hurting us, so they are playing us more straight up, so we just have to start knocking down the shots.”

On remaining home games…
“ It was good, especially with all these home games coming up. It’s definitely good confidence to know that we have eight of our last twelve at home. It’s a big boost for us to play so many games at home at the end of the year. It gives us hope. It gives us confidence that we can make a run at the end.”
