Head Coach Dave Bezold
On the outcome of the game…
“It’s a disappointing effort, that’s my
general feeling on the game. You come home, and we ought
to win
at home. We felt like we had some momentum going into this
game, and we just laid an egg.”
On Derek Fey’s 16 points and 16 rebounds…
“I wish he was on our team. That’s what is so
disappointing, for someone to outwork you, and that is what
he did. He’s
a hard-working kid. Hopefully some of that rubbed off on
some of our guys tonight.”
On the team’s 20 turnovers…
“It goes back to our inconsistencies all year. We picked
the wrong time to turn it over, carelessness. Those were
the
result of our mental state coming out of the locker room
today, when we just weren’t sharp and that leads to
turnovers. We weren’t willing to work hard enough to
get through it, not willing to work hard enough offensively
to make sure that didn’t happen. They outworked us.”
On improvements to be made before Saturday’s game
against Wisconsin-Parkside…
“We are going to have to play a lot harder with a lot
more passion. What’s really disappointing is we’ve
got some really talented guys that their passion only burns
every so often. We’re going to have to have a little
gut check, and we’re going to have to figure out if
we are going to get back into this thing. Or, we are going
to wind up playing about five or six players who we know
are going to respond for us.”

Schappell
On changes needed to be made before Saturday…
“We just need to come out at the beginning of the game
and be ready to play. We’re not ready to play every
game, which you saw today.”
On Derek Fey’s double-double…
“He just outworked us and outhustled us. It can’t
happen.”
On what they need to work on before Saturday…
“Rebounding, we need to work on definitely. We need
to just work on playing hard and coming out every game ready
to play.”
Mike
Kelsey
On Saint Joseph’s run at the beginning of the second
half…
“We were just flat the entire game until about the
12-minute mark of the second half when we actually started
competing.
There was no competing out of our team tonight. When you
play a good team, you are going to get beat, and you are
going to get beat bad.”
On the difference between the two games against Saint Joseph’s…
“It was a lack of intensity on our part tonight. I
don’t
know. Last time we played them we had come off a loss to
(Indianapolis), and we came into that game ready. We were
ahead and we knocked down shots, and tonight we were just
flat. Every game we just have to come out with intensity
and be ready to compete.”
On what needs to be practiced before Saturday’s
game…
“We’ve got to forget about this. There’s
no sense in remembering this game. We have to forget about
this game
and learn from our mistakes on how we came out so flat and
the lack of intensity. We just need to come ready to practice
tomorrow and be ready Saturday.”
