Head Coach Dave Bezold
On his team’s response to the lost against USI…
We’ve been a team that has responded to a tough defeat
every time. We knew we were going to respond and it was just
the case where when it got close at the end if we would respond
and get the monkey off of our back and keep our guys from
having to look over our shoulder for the rest of the year.
On the play of Mike Kelsey…
Actually, since we left Northern Michigan he has been the
best player that we’ve had around here in a while.
He’s
been consistent and he’s playing with confidence. Our
guys are making a concerted effort to get him open, and
when he is, he’s getting the ball in his hand and knocking
the shots down.
On the play of Courtney Fergerson…
He’s probably only had one bad half of basketball or
a game he really hasn’t helped us win and that was
the game against Southern Indiana and he probably didn’t
have as many minutes. He’s a guy that can defend on
the perimeter and we desperately need another scorer on the
perimeter.
Mike Kelsey
The biggest difference between the game today and against
USI…
We made plays down at the end. We stepped up and made plays
when we needed to. We made shots when we needed to, we made
big stops when we needed to and Thursday we didn’t
do that.
On hitting more shots…
It’s all about rhythm and when you get into the flow
and get your confidence going when you’re shooting
and those first couple go in, it’s a lot easier to
shoot in the game. Fortunately, these last couple of games
I’ve been able to get some good looking shots and put
the ball into the basket.
On Courtney Fergerson’s play…
He’s coming along real well. He hit some huge shots
for us. He hit a big three and a big pull-up. It was a two
or three point game when he hit those shots, so he really
gave us a big lift. He also gives us a big lift with his
defense.
Courtney Fergerson
On his defense…
Coach Bezold wants me to pick up the point guards full court.
He wants me to make it hard for the point guard to start
the offense for the other team.
On his big three…
I was nervous when I hit my first three, but after I hit
that, the second one was all in the rhythm of the game.
