Head Coach Dave Bezold
On beating Bellarmine…
“
It was important because it was our first home game back
after the break. We built a lead, and they made a charge
when we didn’t play very well offensively for a couple
minutes. We missed a lot of free throws at the end that would
have helped hold the lead and given us a comfort level, but
we held on and won, which is the most important thing.”
On the differences from the first meeting with Bellarmine…
“ The difference was when we played down there, neither team
could make a shot. I think the shooting percentages were
in the low thirties. Tonight, nobody missed shots, and so
that was a difference. I was very impressed with Courtney
Fergerson tonight in his ability to defend (Matt Miller)
because that kid was shooting it awfully well.”
On the addition of Fergerson to the team…
“
What he is going to do is allow us to defend a quick guard,
a quick scoring guard like we saw tonight. I don’t
know if (Miller) scored with Courtney on him. I think he
might have had a three when Courtney helped him when he shouldn’t
have, but he hasn’t played in a year and a half so
we’ll take it.”
Pat Cary
On the team’s overall performance…
“We won, but we should have played a little better. We didn’t
really stop them that much. We let them put up way too many
points. The bottom line is we won, and a win in the conference
is always good.”
On changes made during Bellarmine’s comeback…
“I wasn’t really looking at the scoreboard. I don’t
think anyone on the team was looking at the scoreboard. We
just went out there and played hard. This is one of those
games where I knew no matter what we did, we were not going
to lose. I guess I was a little overconfident. I just knew
we were going to beat them no matter what happened.”

Hawkins
On the team’s performance…
“As a team, this is probably one of the best games we’ve
played because we finally played together more than just
the first half, and we put the second half together.”
On Fergerson’s first game…
“I think he came in and did a good job for it being his first
game.” Courtney Fergerson
On the game…
“We played well. We played hard as a team, and we worked hard
until the end and it paid off.”
On defending Miller…
“I know he’s pretty fast, so I didn’t want to
get real close to him. Coach wanted me to get real close
to him, but I didn’t want to get too close because
I thought that would just be an easy bucket. I just wanted
to stop him from getting the jump shots and try and take
him out of his offense.” |
