HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University’s Evan McDole earned his third Player of the Year award of the 2009 season, this time from the American Baseball Coaches Association.  The junior was named to the ABCA’s All-Midwest Region first-team and the Midwest Region Player of the Year.

McDole was also named the Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year.  He led the team to a 41-22 record and its second consecutive GLVC championship.

McDole, a native of Cold Spring, Ky., set NKU single-season records for walks (45) and games played (61) while leading the team in home runs (15), slugging (.670), on-base percentage (.490), and runs scored (58).  McDole was a dominant defender at first base as well, finishing the season with a .990 fielding percentage to lead the NKU infield.

Through three seasons at NKU, McDole stands 11th all-time in RBIs at 109, seventh in home runs with 22 and sixth in walks at 87.

Joining McDole on the ABCA All-Midwest Region first team are senior Kevin Dusold and junior Jason Cisper, while senior Matt Winterhalter was honored on the All-Region second team.

Dusold, a product of Cincinnati Oak Hills High School, came on strong at the end of the season, setting new single-season records for total bases (138) and games played (61) while leading the team with 71 RBIs, just one short of a record mark, and 15 home runs.  As his collegiate career comes to a close, Dusold made his mark on the all-time lists as well, landing second for home runs (27), third in RBIs (160) and 10th in hits (193).

Cisper, from Cincinnati Moeller High School, ended the 2009 campaign with a phenomenal 24-game hitting streak and came within striking distance of several single-season records, leading the team in hits (81), doubles (20) and hitting (.413).  Cisper also tied a single-game mark by hitting three doubles in a 9-8, come-from-behind victory over Urbana on April 23.

Winterhalter, a Cincinnati La Salle graduate, served as the power-pitching closer for the Norse, setting a new single-season earned run average mark at 1.02.  Winterhalter posted a 7-3 record with eight saves in 35 1/3 innings of work on the season.  Winterhalter struck out 41 batters while walking 16 and holding opposing batters to a .190 batting average.  On his career, Winterhalter stands third all-time with 70 pitching appearances.

McDole, Dusold and Cisper are eligible for the ABCA All-American team, to be announced later this summer.
