HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team took a pair of 12-2 wins over Kentucky State in a midweek doubleheader.
Two-run singles by Joe Mack and Jeff Dektas set the tone early in Game 1, while Max Colaner added the exclamation point with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dektas ended with a 3-for-3 performance, while Kevin Dusold was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Andy Karpowicz (2-0) got the win, striking out four batters in four innings of work.
Shannon McCormick paced the offense in Game 2, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in, while Eric Braeckel, making his batting debut, hit a pair of doubles, scoring two runs and driving in another as the Norse put together a six-run fifth inning to take victory.
Josh Blaum (2-0) pitched four innings of five-hit baseball, striking out five in the victory. Jimmy Farr and Brent Wethington each threw an inning of scoreless relief.
NKU (26-18) returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday, travelling to take on Kentucky Wesleyan in a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for noon. |
