Three NKU
baseball players earned All-Region honors from the American Baseball
Coaches Association last week. Juniors Kevin Dusold and Larry
Pempek were named to the All-North Central Region second team,
while Pempek and sophomore Jason Cisper were named Gold Glove
recipients.
Dusold, a graduate
of Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, led the Norse with a
.343 batting average, 11 home runs and 55
RBIs
in 2008. The left fielder went on a tear late in the year,
taking a 23-game hitting streak into the final game of the season
against
Wayne State (Mich.). Dusold was also named to the All-GLVC
second team and to the Daktronics All-North Central Region second
team.
Pempek, a native
of Cedar Lake, Ind., hit .325 for the Norse with 34 runs scored
and 26 RBIs. Defensively, the tri-captain
committed just three errors and threw out 16 potential base
stealers in 52 attempts. As a team, the Norse caught 37.6
percent of opposing
base stealers to lead the GLVC.
Cisper, a graduate
of Moeller High School, did not commit an error in 119 fielding
chances
over 51 games. Cisper also
claimed
an outfield assist in a 3-2 loss to Bellarmine on April
20. At the plate, Cisper hit .280 with 30 RBIs.
