By Mike Anderson, NKU Sports Information HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University’s Jake Shaffer was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Second Team on Thursday. The award is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and is based on outstanding achievement both on the field and in the classroom. Shaffer, a junior from Athol, Mass., maintains a 3.94 grade point average as a biological sciences major. On the field, Shaffer has hit .338 on the season with 14 doubles, four home runs, 28 runs scored and 29 RBIs. He is second on the team with 10 stolen bases, and is one of three Norse to hold a .400 or better on-base percentage. Northern Kentucky (33-22) takes on Southern Indiana in an elimination game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Sauget, Ill.
