CASEYVILLE, Ill. – Seven Northern Kentucky University baseball players were honored among the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference teams on Wednesday, the conference office announced.

First baseman Evan McDole and pitcher Matt Winterhalter were named to the All-GLVC third team. Catcher Larry Pempek, outfielder Kevin Dusold and pitcher Dave Middendorf took home second team honors, while outfielder Jake Shaffer and pitcher Ryan Schmidt earned spots on the All-GLVC first team.

Against GLVC competition, McDole has hit .338 this season with two home runs, six doubles and 13 RBIs. He also stands second on the team with a .466 on-base percentage. Winterhalter holds a record of 4-1 with a 1.31 earned run average. He has allowed just six hits in 20 2/3 innings of relief work.

Pempek hit .329 against conference opponents, scoring 20 runs while driving in 13. Defensively, the junior threw out four base stealers on the season. Dusold has finished the regular season on a 13-GLVC-game hitting streak, and has reached base safely in his last 20 GLVC appearances. The two-time All-GLVC honoree drove in 37 runs in conference games, second best in all of the GLVC. Middendorf is a two-time GLVC Pitcher of the Week honoree after a pair of stellar shutout performances. He leads all NKU starters with a 4-2 record with a 2.83 ERA and 47 strikeouts in eight league starts.

Shaffer, a second-team All-GLVC selection in 2007, has tortured GLVC pitchers, hitting .452 in the league with 11 doubles and a .528 on-base percentage. Shaffer has been struck out just three times by GLVC hurlers. Schmidt went 5-2 in seven starts and was a factor in three GLVC shutouts.
