Back had two hits in each of the two games against Findlay.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team opened
the home portion of the 2008 campaign with a pair of tough
losses to region foe Findlay on Monday, 7-2 and 9-6.
Findlay opened
the scoring with a three-run second inning, punctuated by George
Rohan’s third triple of the season to score a
pair. Chad Geuy followed up with a three-run home run in the
fifth to extend the lead to six. The Norse got one back in
the bottom of the fifth when Jon Back scored on an error, but
Rohan
singled in another in the sixth. Jake Shaffer sacrificed a
run home in the seventh, but the rally ended there with an
Oiler
victory.
Matt Winterhalter
(0-1) took the loss for the Norse, pitching 5 2/3 innings with
seven strikeouts. Andy Heston pitched
1
1/3 innings of relief.
Game 2 of the
twin bill opened up with more promise as Shaffer, who singled
on the game’s first
pitch, scored on a wild pitch to give NKU the early lead. After
Findlay got
a run in
the top of the third, Kevin Dusold grounded out to shortstop,
scoring Pat Muth to maintain the one-run advantage.
Findlay
then opened up for four runs in the top of the fourth and two
more in the fifth to break the game open.
The Norse
got three back in the sixth on an RBI double by Larry
Pempek and
a two-run single from pinch-hitting Aaron Mentz. Findlay
plated two more in the top of the seventh before NKU
got one back
on an RBI single by Jason Cisper to get the final score.
Kevin
Quick (0-2) took the loss, pitching 3 1/3 innings for the Norse.
Northern
Kentucky (8-12) will host Shawnee State on Wednesday.
