ROLLA, Mo. – The
Northern Kentucky University baseball team split a Great Lakes
Valley Conference doubleheader against Missouri S&T on Friday,
winning Game 1 in commanding fashion, 15-3, before falling in
Game 2, 7-4.
Kevin Dusold
was an offensive machine in Game 1, going 4-for-4 with two doubles,
a home run and six RBIs, while
Jake Shaffer
was an astounding 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles in the Game
1 trouncing to help set the tone. The Norse scored four in
the third inning, five in the fifth and four more in the sixth
as
they belted out 19 hits.
Brandon Slusher
(1-1) got the win, scattering six hits and striking out three.
Kevin Quick pitched
an inning of scoreless
relief.
Andrew Page (1-3) took the loss for S&T.
The Norse gave
up a five-run first inning in Game 2 to seal the team’s
fate, as the Miners never looked back in the 7-4 victory.
Larry Pempek was 2-for-4 with a double and
two runs
scored to lead the offense for NKU.
Dave Middendorf
(2-2) took the loss for the Norse, giving up seven runs in 3
1/3 innings. Matt Winterhalter pitched
2 2/3
innings of scoreless relief. Brian Rickert (1-1) got
the win in relief, striking out three in five innings.
Northern
Kentucky (6-10, 3-2 GLVC) will wrap up the four-game series
against Missouri S&T tomorrow. First pitch
is scheduled for 1 p.m.
