QUINCY, Ill. – The
Northern Kentucky University baseball team was swept in non-conference
action against Quincy on Monday, 9-1 and 5-1.
The Hawks scored
eight runs in the first two innings combined to set the tone
early in Game 1. The Norse got one back in the third
when Jason Cisper grounded out to score Brian DeCarlo, but it
was the only time NKU would get in the runs column.
Kevin Quick
(0-1) took the loss in Game 1, giving up three earned runs
in 1 2/3 innings. Kevin Jordan and Andy Heston combined
for five strikeouts in their three innings of relief. Jordan
Backes
(1-1) got the complete-game victory for Quincy, striking out
six.
NKU started
the scoring early as Cisper again grounded out to score a run,
this time Jon Back, in the top of the first
inning.
However,
Quincy took the game right back in the bottom half when Joe
Palumbo’s
two-run double gave Quincy the lead back for good en route
to a 5-1 final score.
Brandon Slusher
(0-1) went the distance for NKU in his first start of the year,
claiming five strikeouts.
Christopher
Conner (1-0)
was stride-for-stride with Slusher, taking the complete-game
win.
Northern Kentucky
(1-8) will remain in Quincy to take on Truman State in a non-conference
doubleheader. First pitch
is scheduled
for noon.
