---Matt Marksbury was named North Central Region Pitcher of the Year on Monday by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Matt Marksbury has been named the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association North Central Region Pitcher of the Year.

Marksbury, who also earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year honors this spring, finished 7-1 with a 2.15 earned run average. The 6-foot-2 Marksbury made 12 starts and struck out 50 batters in 75 1/3 innings on the mound.

A senior right-hander and a graduate of Norwood High School, Marksbury also tossed three shutouts and five complete games while allowing just 18 earned runs. In GLVC play, he lowered his ERA to 1.88 and finished with a 6-1 record.

Marksbury finished his career tied for sixth place in Norse history with 21 victories. He also finished sixth in NKU history with 184 career strikeouts and No. 3 all-time in innings pitched with 269.

Former NKU ace Derrik Moeves also earned North Central Region Pitcher of the Year accolades in 2004.

As a result of being named North Central Region Pitcher of the Year, Marksbury is assured of a receiving NCAA Division II All-America honors. Those teams will be announced next week during the NCAA Division II World Series at Montgomery, Ala.

Marksbury has signed with the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League and will pitch for that franchise this summer.
