RENSSELAER,
Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team posted a 5-2
win over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday.
NKU capitalized
on three Puma errors in the top of the first to bring Jon Back and
Jake Shaffer around to score and gain the early 2-0 lead. Saint
Joseph's responded in the bottom of the frame with an RBI groundout
by Kevin Diete to tie the score at 1-all.
Diete struck
again in the third inning with a sacrifice fly to score Matt Reimer
and draw the Pumas level. NKU pulled away once again in the top
of the fourth with Brian DeCarlo's first double of the season to
bring Kevin Dusold in. DeCarlo later scored on a failed pickoff
to stretch the margin back to two runs.
Back got the
insurance run for the Norse in the seventh inning with an RBI single
to plate Kenny Wilson for the 5-2 final. GLVC Pitcher of the Week

the second game of the doubleheader before darkness ended the affair
with the teams tied at 1-all. The game was suspended and will be
completed on April 3 prior to the scheduled doubleheader.
