FLORENCE, Ky.
- Northern Kentucky University pitching did not allow a run during
a doubleheader against Bellarmine on Tuesday as the Norse pulled
out a pair of victories at Champion Window Field.
Josh Lueke scattered
six hits in the opener and struck out eight batters as NKU posted
a 3-0 win. Lueke, a junior right-hander and a graduate of Scott
High School, did not walk a batter and picked up his first career
victory with the Norse.
Jake Shaffer
was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while teammate Jon Back added
two hits and scored a run.
In the nightcap,
Brian Beltz allowed just a fifth-inning infield single and finished
with 12 strikeouts as NKU completed the sweep with a 2-0 decision
over Bellarmine. The Norse improved to 6-13 overall, 5-4 in the
Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Kevin Dusold's
run-scoring single up the middle plated Kory Lonergan for NKU's
first run in the fourth inning. Evan McDole later added a sacrifice
fly to drive in Back with an insurance run.
Beltz (2-2)
needed no extra runs Tuesday against Bellarmine. The senior left-hander
picked up the complete-game victory with 137 total pitches. He walked
four batters in a game that lasted an hour and 58 minutes.
NKU will hit
the road this weekend for a four-game series against Southern Illinois
at Edwardsville.
