- Outstanding starting pitching and timely hitting led Northern
Kentucky University to a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin-Parkside
on Sunday.
Josh Lueke went
the distance in the opener as NKU posted a 2-1 win over Wisconsin-Parkside.
Lueke allowed just three hits and struck out five in nine innings
as the Norse bounced back from two losses to the Rangers the previous
day.
Kevin Dusold
and Matt Wagers each collected run-scoring singles in the first
inning for NKU. Lueke made the runs hold up and upped his record
to 3-5 this spring.
In the nightcap,
Kevin Quick tossed a five-hit shutout as NKU completed the sweep
with a 5-0 non-conference victory over Wisconsin-Parkside. Quick
struck out four batters in the seven-inning contest.
Jake Shaffer
went 3-for-4 with an RBI for NKU, while teammates Evan McDole and
Jim Volpe each added two hits.
NKU improved
to 22-21 overall, 18-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The
Norse play at Indianapolis on Wednesday.
