- It felt like the middle of February, but Northern Kentucky University’s
pitching staff performed Sunday afternoon as if it were a hot day
chilling winds and cold temperature, NKU swept a doubleheader from
Quincy, taking a 4-2 decision in the opener, and holding on for
a 1-0 victory in the nightcap. The Norse improved to 18-19 overall,
16-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

in the seventh inning that drove in Matt Wagers with the only run.
Starting pitcher Josh Bruns went eight scoreless innings, allowed
just two hits and struck out nine Quincy batters before giving way
to Josh Lueke in the ninth.

In the opener,
Matt Marksbury combined with two relievers to limit Quincy to a
pair of runs. Kory Lonergan and Jim Volpe each added a sacrifice
fly for the Norse, while teammate Kenny Wilson was 2-for-3 and scored
out four batters and improved to 6-0 this season. Reliever Greg
Pass came on in the seventh inning and recorded two outs, including
a fine defensive play off a hard grounder up the middle.
