helped NKU sweep Lewis

FLORENCE, Ky.
- Matt Wagers went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead Northern
Kentucky University to a 5-1 win over Lewis on Sunday to complete
a four-game weekend sweep of the Flyers at Champion Window Field.
NKU right-hander
Nathan Jones allowed just two hits and one run in six innings to
notch his first win of the season. Jones also struck out seven batters
and walked two during the nightcap.
Kory Lonergan,
Chris Nann and Drew Rushing each added RBI singles for the Norse,
who improved to 11-8-1 overall, 9-4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference.
In the opener,
Steve Thomas came out of the bullpen and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless
innings as NKU held on for a 4-3 win. Jon Back scored twice to lead
the Norse offense, which generated just four hits but picked up
five stolen bases.
Matt Winterhalter
went five innings and recorded the victory for NKU. Winterhalter
allowed just three hits and struck out four batters to even his
record at 2-2.
NKU, which
also defeated Lewis twice on Saturday, will play a road doubleheader
at Bellarmine on Wednesday. The Norse will also visit Missouri-St.
Louis for a four-game series next weekend.
