NKU’s
Josh Bruns struck out eight batters

FLORENCE, Ky.
- The Northern Kentucky University pitching staff did not allow
a run Wednesday as the Norse swept a doubleheader from Bellarmine
at Champion Window Field.

Patterson gave up one hit in six innings in the opener as NKU posted
a 4-0 victory over Bellarmine. In the nightcap, Josh Bruns struck
out eight batters and allowed only two hits in eight innings as
the Norse completed the sweep with a 6-0 victory.
Patterson,
a 6-foot-8 senior right-hander, struck out five and walked three
batters before departing after six innings. Mark Bogenschutz finished
off Bellarmine with a scoreless seventh inning.
Nick D’Ippolito
and Matt Jones each had two hits for NKU. Kory Lonergan’s
two-run single highlighted a three-run second inning for the Norse.
NKU jumped
out to a 4-0 lead in the second game and coasted to the win behind
the pitching of Bruns, a junior left-hander who improved to 2-0
this season. Josh Moulton was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI
to lead the Norse offense.
Jones collected
two more hits in the nightcap for NKU, which is 7-8-1 overall, 5-4-1
in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lonergan and Kenny Wilson
also had hits and scored runs.
Bellarmine
dropped to 6-6 overall, 3-4 in the GLVC.
NKU will begin
a four-game series against Lewis with a noon doubleheader Saturday
at Champion Window Field. The teams will conclude the weekend series
with another doubleheader at noon Sunday.
