Derrik Moeves |
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Former Northern Kentucky University pitcher Derrik Moeves has
earned a promotion to the Altoona (Pa.) Curve, the AA affiliate
of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Moeves was promoted
to Altoona from Class A Hickory on June 16 and has made one appearance
with the Curve. In 1 2/3 innings on the mound, Moeves has allowed
one hit and no runs.
Moeves, a 6-foot-3 right-hander and a graduate of Highlands High
School, is NKU’s all-time career strikeout leader with 259.
He posted a 7-5 record with a 2.34 earned run average in 2005 and
struck out 99 batters in 84 2/3 innings on the mound.
Moeves also had seven complete games and two shutouts in 2005.
He was named second team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference and All-North
Central Region.
As a sophomore, Moeves was named both the GLVC and North Central
Region Pitcher of the Year. He also earned third team NCAA Division
II All-America honors in 2004.
In three years at NKU, Moeves won 18 games and ranks ninth all-time
in school history in that category. He also set an NKU single-season
record in 2004 with 102 strikeouts.
