HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team moved into the national rankings Monday at No. 24 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s NCAA Division II poll.

NKU is 2-1 after beating Grand Valley State and Wisconsin-Parkside to open the season. The Norse used a three-run seventh inning to defeat then-No. 8 Grand Valley State, 12-11, in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Matt Wagers sparked NKU’s comeback in that game with a grand slam.

Grand Valley State - seeking its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II World Series this season - defeated NKU in the opener, 6-4, on Saturday.

NKU posted an 11-2 win over then-No. 19 Wisconsin-Parkside in the season opener last Thursday.

Both Grand Valley State and Wisconsin-Parkside dropped out of this week’s poll.
