HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team will wrap up
its home season
this weekend with a four-game series against Indianapolis at Champion
Window Field in Florence, Ky.
The Norse will
host noon doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday. NKU is 29-14-1 overall,
and the Norse lead the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 27-8-1
record.
NKU is looking
to reach the 30-win plateau for the fifth time in the last six years.
Indianapolis
is 25-15 overall, 22-15 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds are in fifth
place in the GLVC.
Prior to Sunday’s
opener against Indianapolis, NKU will recognize its six seniors
- Conor McGeehan, Steve Thomas, Paul David Patterson, Joe Kendall,
Matt Jones and Chris Wilson - during Senior Day festivities.
NKU is ranked
No. 2 in the latest NCAA II North Central Region poll. Grand Valley
State, which swept a doubleheader from NKU last week, is No. 1 in
the poll. The top six teams in each region advance to the NCAA Division
II Tournament May 18-21.
Thomas, NKU’s
senior closer, notched his seventh save of the season on Wednesday
by pitching the final two innings against Kentucky Wesleyan. Thomas’
school-record streak of consecutive scoreless innings pitched ended
at 28 when Kentucky Wesleyan pushed across a run in the bottom of
the seventh.
The senior
from Elder High School in Cincinnati had not allowed a run this
season until Wednesday.
