HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Matt Wagers hit a three-run home run in the third inning to spark Northern Kentucky University’s 12-4 win over Wisconsin-Parkside in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Wagers’ three-run homer gave NKU an 8-4 lead, and the Norse added four more runs in the fourth inning to coast to the victory. Alex Frank added two hits and scored twice for NKU, and teammate Matt Jones was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Kory Lonergan added two hits and an RBI as the Norse bounced back from a 7-6 loss in the opener to gain a split of the doubleheader.

Rick Wood pitched five innings of no-hit baseball in relief and picked up the victory for NKU, which improved to 7-7 overall, 5-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Wood relieved NKU starter Paul David Patterson, who surrendered six hits and four runs in two innings.

In the opener, Wesley Pabst went 3-for-4 with five RBI as Wisconsin-Parkside held on for the 7-6 win. Casey Garms was 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Rangers, who are 12-7 overall, 8-2 in the GLVC.

NKU starter Derrik Moeves pitched five innings and allowed seven runs on six hits. Moeves also struck out eight and walked four.

Wisconsin-Parkside scored four times in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead. NKU rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Wisconsin-Parkside reliever Todd Lorenz came out of the bullpen and notched the save by allowing just one hit in 1 2/3 innings on the mound.

NKU will play host Lewis next weekend in a four-game series. The teams will begin at noon Saturday with a doubleheader at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field.
