NKU GAINS SPLIT AT SOUTHERN INDIANA
Norse reach 30-win mark for fourth time in past five seasons, clinch No. 3 seed in GLVC Tourney

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Josh Moulton had three hits, including a key two-run single in the seventh inning, as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team rallied to defeat Southern Indiana, 6-3, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

With Southern Indiana holding a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, NKU rallied with two outs as Conor McGeehan singled and Alex Frank doubled to put runners on second and third. Moulton then singled to center field to drive in two runs and give NKU a 4-3 advantage.

Moulton, a freshman right fielder from Toledo, Ohio, went 3-for-5 and finished with two RBI.

The Norse added two more runs in the eighth inning to seal the victory. Keith Jackson had an RBI triple to key the eighth-inning scoring, and he later came home on Jon Back’s infield hit.

Matt Marksbury pitched 6 1/3 innings and picked up the victory. Adam Bell relieved Marksbury and struck out six batters in 2 2/3 innings to record his first career save.

NKU improved to 30-24 overall, 22-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. It marked the fourth time in the past five years the Norse have reached the 30-win plateau.

Back, Alex Frank, Joe Kendall and Nick D’Ippolito each had two hits for NKU in the nightcap.

In the opener, Southern Indiana held off NKU, 5-2. The Screaming Eagles scored three times in the third inning off NKU starter Paul David Patterson, and they added two insurance runs in the sixth.

Frank led NKU with two RBI. The Norse were held to just four hits.

NKU clinched the No. 3 seed in the GLVC Tournament and will play No. 4 seed Quincy this Thursday at O’Fallon, Mo., in the first round. NKU is the defending GLVC Tournament champion.
