ST. LOUIS - Matt Jones went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the second game Saturday to lead the Northern Kentucky University baseball team to a 9-5 win over Missouri-St. Louis and a sweep of the doubleheader.

Alex Frank added three hits and two runs batted in for NKU, which improved to 19-16 overall, 11-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse also took over sole possession of third place in the GLVC standings with the sweep.

Kory Lonergan added three runs for the Norse, who scored three times in the fourth inning to snap a 3-3 tie. Conor McGeehan and Matt Wagers each collected three hits for NKU, while starting pitcher Kevin Quick scattered six hits and allowed just two earned runs in eighth innings on the mound to pick up the victory.

In the opener, Jones scored two runs and had two RBI as NKU posted an 8-3 win. Josh Moulton was 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Jason Nintrup added two runs.

Moulton sparked a three-run seventh inning with an RBI triple, and he later scored on a Missouri-St. Louis error.

Matt Marksbury upped his record to 4-3 with the complete-game victory. Marksbury allowed just four hits and three runs while striking out four. Missouri-St. Louis struck for all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting NKU’s lead to 5-3.

Marksbury, however, retired the Rivermen in order in the seventh inning to seal the win. He struck out Mark Sanders to end the game.

NKU concludes its four-game series with Missouri-St. Louis with a doubleheader on Sunday. NKU will then play the University of Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lexington, Ky.
