LEXINGTON, Ky. - John
Shelby and Michael Bertram each collected three hits Tuesday night
as the University of Kentucky posted a 10-4 win over Northern Kentucky
University at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Shelby added two runs
batted in for Kentucky, which sealed the win with a four-run seventh
inning. Bertram scored three times for the Wildcats, who improved
to 19-16.
Keith Jackson hit a
solo home run and a two-run triple to pace the NKU offense. Conor
McGeehan added an RBI for the Norse, who dropped to 21-17 with the
non-conference loss.
Ryan Wilkes keyed Kentucky’s
seventh inning outburst with a two-run double. J.B. Schmidt added
a two-run single to cap the seventh-inning scoring for the Wildcats.
Kentucky scored three
times in the first inning off NKU starter Adam Bell (1-1) and held
a 5-0 lead after three innings. NKU battled back with a run in the
fourth, and the Norse scored three times in the sixth to cut the
deficit to 6-4.
The Norse resume Great
Lakes Valley Conference play at 1 p.m. Wednesday when Indianapolis
visits the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field for a
doubleheader.
NKU is 13-7 in the GLVC,
and the Norse are in sole possession of third place in the conference
standings.
NKU will also be at
home this weekend for a four-game series with Kentucky Wesleyan,
beginning with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
