NKU GAINS SPLIT WITH COMEBACK WIN IN GAME 2

Josh Moulton had three hits on Sunday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Alex Frank hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to help Northern Kentucky University defeat Lewis, 5-4, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday at the Bill Aker Complex at Friendship Field.

Joe Kendall, who went 2-for-3 with two runs for the game, opened the inning for the Norse by being hit by a pitch from Jon Crettol. Kendall advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt by Josh Moulton and scored after Kory Lonergan singled to center field to bring NKU to within 3-1.

After John Back and Keith Jackson both reached and stole bases, Frank stepped up to the plate and hit the three-run homer over the wall in right field to put the Norse ahead 4-3. The Norse added another run to their total in the sixth inning.

Lewis added its final run in the ninth inning before Steve Thomas was brought in to close out the victory for the Norse, who improved to 11-11 overall, 8-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

In the opener, Lewis used a five-run fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Victor Naut went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Flyers. Andy Radak had two RBI to lead Lewis, which is 5-27 overall, 3-17 in the GLVC.

Matt Wagers sparked a Norse three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth, but Lewis held on for the 5-3 victory. Moulton went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI for the Norse. Moulton totaled three hits during the doubleheader.

Matt Marksbury pitched the complete game for NKU and allowed five runs on nine hits. He struck out five and walked one.

The Norse will play a doubleheader against Bellarmine on Tuesday in Louisville, Ky. NKU will return home Wednesday to face Rio Grande at 2 p.m.
