HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Derrik Moeves hurled a three-hit shutout and struck out nine batters
as Northern Kentucky University posted a 2-0 win over Lewis in the
first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Moeves, a junior right-hander,
allowed just one walk and upped his record to 2-3 this spring. Keith
Jackson and Jason Nintrup each collected two hits to pace the Norse
offensive attack.
In the nightcap, Josh
Moulton went 3-for-4 as NKU coasted to a 7-5 win over the Flyers.
Rick Wood (3-0) pitched seven innings and picked up the victory
for the Norse, who took advantage of five Lewis errors to score
four unearned runs.
Alex Frank scored two
runs for NKU, which snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth
inning. Steve Thomas pitched out of a jam in the ninth inning to
notch his third save of the season.
NKU improved to 10-10
overall, 7-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis - which
has lost 10 consecutive games - dropped to 4-26 overall, 2-16 in
the GLVC.
NKU will play host to
Lewis at noon Sunday as the teams conclude their four-game series
at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field.
